Folk flute – distance

In collaboration with Folk Flute Academy Haverö, we offer a course in folk flute for you who want to develop your playing on traditional playing pipes and / or recorder and traverse flute. The arrangement is part-time studies at a distance with one meeting per semester. The course is well suited to combine with, for example, work or other studies.

Head teacher is Göran Månsson.

Course content

Do you want to deepen your playing in folk flute? We offer individual lessons and course days in an individual format depending on the type of flute you want to immerse yourself in. The focus is on developing your game with technique, turn and expression. The teaching takes place with individual lessons at a distance and with one weekend per semester where we meet at Härnösands folkhögskola for individual lessons, seminars and joint ensemble and technology sessions. Guest teachers will also attend the meetings in Härnösand.

Folk Flute Distance is a one year course with opportunity to extend one more year. First year the focus is on developing your game with technique, turn and expression in individual online lessons.

The second year contents seminars with specialists in Norwegian folk music, Finnish folk music and Nordic ’Folk Flute style’.

Repertoire

We play traditional songs from the playing pipe’s repertoire, especially from Ol’Jansa’s song treasure from Härjedalen. Also songs from Haverö and the surrounding provinces Jämtland, Härjedalen, Medelpad and Hälsingland.

Teacher

Göran Månsson, one of Sweden’s most renowned flute players and educators in folk music. Born and raised in Västra Medelpad, he has become one of the strongest bearers of the tradition of music after his ancestors from Haverö.

Göran is educated at the Royal Academy of Music in Stockholm where he also teaches. He is the founder of Folk Flute Academy Haverö, which has become a meeting place for flutists from all over the world. As a musician he has toured the world with bands like Gjallarhorn and Göran Månsson Band and as a solo artist he is one of the most appreciated in Japan. He has premiered Mats Edén’s Naturae Sonus for Härjedalspipor and chamber orchestra. The work was specially composed for Göran and was performed together with the Nordic Chamber Orchestra.

One weekend per semester we meet at Härnösands folkhögskola for seminars and joint ensemble and technology sessions. Guest teachers will attend the meetings in Härnösand. Examples of guest teachers are Ale Möller, Jonas Simonson, Kristiina Ilmonen etc.

Other committed teachers: Kim Persson, Kristine West, Markus Tullberg, Elise Hildrum, Säde Tatar, Kirsi Ojala and Mimmi Laaksonen.
