Folk flute - distance - Härnösands folkhögskola

In collaboration with Folk Flute Academy Haverö, we offer a course in folk flute for you who want to develop your playing on traditional playing pipes and / or recorder and traverse flute. The arrangement is part-time studies at a distance with one meeting per semester. The course is well suited to combine with, for example, work or other studies.

Course content

Do you want to deepen your playing in folk flute? We offer individual lessons and course days in an individual format depending on the type of flute you want to immerse yourself in. The focus is on developing your game with technique, turn and expression. The teaching takes place with individual lessons at a distance and with one weekend per semester where we meet at Härnösands folkhögskola for individual lessons, seminars and joint ensemble and technology sessions. Guest teachers will also attend the meetings in Härnösand.

Repertoire

We play traditional songs from the playing pipe’s repertoire from Ol’Jansa’s song collection from Härjedalen, Sväs Anders, Älvdalen and Johan Jacob Bruun’s flute repertoire from Skåne. Also songs from Haverö and the surrounding regions of Jämtland, Härjedalen, Medelpad and Hälsingland.

Teacher

The course leader is Göran Månsson, one of Sweden’s most distinguished flute players and folk music educators. Born and raised in Western Medelpad, he has become one of the strongest traditional bearers of the music after his ancestors from Haverö.

Teachers are Nina Grigorjeva and Kim Persson, two of Sweden’s most innovative and creative folk flute players. Other committed teachers: Kristine West, Markus Tullberg, Elise Hildrum, Säde Tatar, Kirsi Ojala, Stefan Ekedahl, Gunnar Stenmark and others.

One weekend per semester we meet at Härnösands folkhögskola with guest teachers such as Ale Möller, Jonas Simonson, Kristiina Ilmonen etc.

You should have a good habit of playing folk music on your instrument. Glad to have participated in teaching at a higher level, such as Folk Flute Academy’s advanced courses. Teaching is done by ear, but it is a plus if you can read notes.

After registering your interest, you can record two songs of different types for assessment. Also a letter where you write a little about your prior knowledge, expectations and goals.

A basic fee of SEK 300 is paid per term and is a partial payment on other costs during the course. Non-refundable.

Before the gathering, we reserve a single room for you. You need to confirm that you will come no later than three weeks before, otherwise the reservation will be released. You do this by emailing info@hfs.se. If you want to change to a double room, please also contact info@hfs.se. Confirmed but then not canceled rooms will be charged.

Single room two nights: SEK 940
Double room two nights: SEK 740 per person in a shared room
Sheets and towels add SEK 100
Breakfast is included in the price.

Food and coffee/tea Saturday: SEK 375. You pay for that even if you arrange other accommodation.

Accommodation and food package are paid no later than two days before arrival (via Swedish mobile payment Swish or bank transfer).

Note! For the restaurant to remain open, a minimum of 15 participants is required. If there are fewer than that, you arrange food and coffee/tea yourself. We then refer to kitchens in the student dormitory or nearby eateries. There is a coffee and vending machine in the restaurant.
